Students perform better academically when they are comfortable in their environment and feel they belong. Smaller class sizes, weekly chapel services, and applying Biblical teaching and guidance to difficult situations are all part of how we provide a high-quality, Christ-centered education. While each class is different and has its own curriculum, on average, Trinity Lutheran School students perform at or above the benchmark in both district average and national norms on annual assessments (Grades 1-5).
Trinity Lutheran School provides a comprehensive program of education for Kindergarten through 5th Grade that includes the core areas of reading and English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, in addition to physical education, art, music, and technology. All subjects are taught with a Christian and Biblical approach. All students participate in Bible classes as they learn about God’s love for them and how they can share God’s love with those around them.
In addition to core class offerings, our Kindergarten through 5th grades have classes in the following subjects:
Makerspace
Makerspace is time where students collaborate on projects that are both fun and teach principles related to STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and/or Math. Recent Makerspace projects include creating: simple circuits using copper ribbon and button batteries; marble runs using various craft and recyclable products; mouse trap race cars; city designs; and giant, three-dimensional snowflakes.
Music & Choir
At Trinity Lutheran School we believe music education is essential to educating the whole child. We offer music classes and choir to ensure students are exposed to this wonderful art form and gift from God. Students of all ages have the opportunity to learn and experiment with different instruments. Elementary students learn the beginning principles reading of music. Our 4th Grade students learn to play the recorder, while our 5th Grade students have the option to participate in a beginning band offered through Lincoln Lutheran Middle & Senior High School.
Spanish
Students in 4th and 5th grades attend Spanish Classes taught by Mrs. Sheila Ziems. Students begin to learn the basic principles of Spanish and learn Bible verses in Spanish. The year culminates with the students studying Spanish-speaking countries and celebrating the cuisine of these countries.
Social Emotional Learning
We use Second Step® curriculum to help students build social-emotional skills, such as nurturing positive relationships, managing emotions, and meeting goals so they can thrive in school and in life.
Technology Lab & Robots
Trinity provides Kindergarten through 5th Grade students with a fully-equipped computer lab and each student works on his or her own Chromebook. Computer curriculum is designed to enhance and extend lessons taught in the classroom and help students become familiar and comfortable with using a computer. With supervision, Trinity students learn to use the internet productively and safely. Our elementary students also work with various types of robots to learn programming skills.
We partner with educators from Lincoln Public Schools to offer Title Services to our students. The purpose of Title Services is to help our students meet their educational goals, particularly in reading and math.
We recognize the importance of physical activity and active play to the total well-being of our students. Our students participate daily in PE classes as well as recess held in our school gymnasium or outdoors on our expansive playground and playing fields.
As a celebration of the the end of the school year, our third through fifth grade students participate in the Champions in Christ Track Meet meet at Concordia University in Seward, NE; while our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students participate in fun outdoor activities at the school.
The following after-school clubs are open to K-5 students and meet on a weekly or monthly basis at Trinity Lutheran School:
