Amber Christensen

Pre-kindergarten

Mrs. Amber Christensen has taught Pre-Kindergarten at Trinity Lutheran since 1999. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education Health and Safety.

Hands-on activities and play take leading roles in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom. “I honestly try to stay away from technology in the early childhood classroom as most students already have so much access to it,” Mrs. Christensen said. “I make learning interactive with my students. We learn through our play. We also do large group, small group, and individual-focused learning.”

Pre-Kindergarten lessons often focus on letter and number recognition, art skills, and developing fine motor skills including the proper way to use pencils and scissors. The students also learn basic social and emotional skills. “Parents can expect that I have their child’s best interest at heart. I will love and care for them like they are my own,” Mrs. Christensen said.

Woven throughout the work and play of Pre-Kindergarten is the message of Jesus’ love for his children and showing ways of sharing kindness and love with others. “I love to see when lessons click for students, however, the best moment is when I see Jesus’ love shining through them,” Mrs. Christensen said. “I wish for my students to be self-sufficient, God-loving people.”

The pre-kindergarten class takes a few field trips during the school year. These trips often include a trip to a pumpkin patch in the autumn and a trip to the Lied Center for a youth show. The students celebrate the conclusion of the school year with a Fun in the Sun Day filled with outdoor games and water play activities.

Mrs. Christensen is the mother to four young adult and adolescent children who are active in sports and school activities. “My life is tied to my kids’ activities at this point. I love going to their sporting events and cheering for them. I also love Nebraska volleyball,” she said.
