Rev. Dan Wing has been an ordained pastor serving in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod since July 2006 and has served as the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and School since 2018. Before receiving his Call to Trinity, Pastor Wing served Immanuel Lutheran in Sweet Springs, MO and Trinity Lutheran in Navasota, TX. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Psychology from Concordia University, Nebraska.
Pastor Wing leads three worship services each Sunday at Trinity in addition to seasonal services during Advent and Lent. “The Lord has had me surrounded by and blessed through the faithful witness of so many throughout my life. Freely I have received and so I try to practice freely giving. To honor those who have put good things into me, I keep them in the rearview mirror as I move forward in serving others,” he said.
Pastor Wing appreciates being able to interact and share the love of Jesus with children, youth and young adults when he leads rotational chapel services at Trinity Lutheran School, Lincoln Lutheran Middle and High School, and Concordia University, Nebraska. His children’s messages during worship services are especially popular, particularly when candy is involved. He is also assists with Trinity’s Vacation Bible School and Blessed Bible Day Camps.
At the other end of the age spectrum, Pastor Wing ministers to many elderly and shut-in members of the Trinity congregation. “My God-given faith informs me on who I am and where I am headed. I desire to bring that same confidence, joy and hope to others. I desire to share Jesus with people of all kinds and ages and walks of life. My hope and desire is that I would become less, as Christ and others become more,” he said.
Pastor Wing appreciates the special role that Trinity Lutheran Church and School play within the community. He often says that while the physical address of each building is different, both are located at the intersection of A Loving God and Loving People. “Life is all about intersections. We come across people in our lives that God places there for a brief moment or a lifetime. We learn from each other and are privileged to get a new vantage point as we see life through the eyes of each other. The beauty of an intersection is that from God’s perspective (from above) we can see a cross. At every intersection is Jesus. We rejoice in getting to share Him in every path we cross.”
Pastor Wing and his wife Sara have three young adult children, a son-in-law, a soon to be daughter-in-law, and a grandson on the way. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing board games, playing computer and video games, and various outdoor activities (especially badminton). If he could ever get his garage cleared out and his workbench organized he would get back into producing Napoleonic miniature figures. He is also an information junkie in that he loves watching videos on volcanoes, history, politics, nature, etc. “I am much more of an introvert, but recognize the joys of extroversion as I have chances to interact with so many different people in life. I am much better at one- on-ones and being in front of large crowds than milling about at dinners and parties,” he said.
Pastor Wing is truly blessed to be called husband by one, father by five, son by four, friend by several, and pastor by many. His life is fairly simple and his love is fierce. You’d be hard-pressed to find a sermon where he does not recollect the sole purpose of who he is and what he desires others to know, “God demonstrates His Own love for all of us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ Jesus died for us.” Romans 5:8
