History

Trinity Lutheran School was the First Lutheran School in Lincoln, Nebraska and has had a proud history faithfully serving the students of Lincoln for over 135 years. Originally founded on March 15, 1882 by Pastor H. Frinke, Trinity Lutheran Church’s First Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church originally only had only two students. During the first ten years of the school’s existence, 202 students graduated. While our Church is located downtown at 12th & H St. our school is located at 1200 N 56th St. on our east campus location next to Lincoln Lutheran Jr/Sr High.

Our Teachers have been certified according to State of Nebraska Standards since 1918, and the current facility was dedicated in 1964.  Trinity’s Early Childhood Pre-School & Pre-Kindergarten Program was added in 1978, followed by the Extended School Day Before & After School Program in 1995.  Our All-Day Summer Camp Program was added in 1997 and our Tender Hearts Toddler Program for 18 month olds was added in 2005.

Trinity Lutheran School has a proud history and looks forward its continued future serving students and their families through “Connecting People to Christ in His Word and Love”.

Lutheran Education

Lutheran Schools have been providing quality Christian Education since 1847 when the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) was formed.  Twelve churches operated nineteen schools at that time.  Today the LCMS operates the largest Protestant school system in the United States.  Currently there are more than 1,200 Early Childhood Centers and Preschools that serve more than 87,000 children.  Additionally, 880 Elementary Schools serve approximately 113,000 students.

Lutheran Schools:

  • Partner with parents in providing a safe and secure learning climate and environment which allows students to grow and mature.
  • Are driven by a commitment to the Gospel and focused on a mission of bringing hope and healing to students and families.
  • Meet and exceed state and national academic standards.
  • Help to develop a minimum of 30 developmental assets in children.
  • Have educators who model servant leadership.

Lutheran Schools of Lincoln

Trinity Lutheran School is a proud Member of Lutheran Schools of Lincoln (LSL). As part of LSL, we participate in many community events around Lincoln as well as have multi-school activities including our Annual LSL Chapel. Look for Trinity at events including Funtober, the Women's Expo, the Mayor's Fun Run, and Pumpkin Run!

Lutheran Schools of Lincoln (LSL)  includes five Lancaster County schools with a common goal of educating tomorrow’s leaders in the context of faith formation. Our ministries provide intentional and directed growth, ensuring that both hearts and minds will be nurtured and protected. Across our campuses, we value an environment of emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth for our community of administrators, educators, students, and their families. LSL views the pursuit of knowledge and faith formation as interrelated pillars helping students to better understanding their place in God’s kingdom. We would enjoy the opportunity to talk more about how your family can benefit from this educational community.

The Trinity Advantage

Trinity Lutheran School seeks to partner with parents and support them in their God-given responsibility to raise their children.  We believe that each child who enters our building is a precious Child of God.  We seek to serve the whole child, and are aware of each child’s social, emotional, physical, academic and spiritual needs.

Trinity Lutheran School has been serving children and their families for 135 years.  The teachers at Trinity represent over 200 years of teaching experience.  The teachers commit to ongoing professional development and actively engage in state and national conferences, workshops, webinars, sharing and discussing best practices based on research, and individual reading of current professional articles.

TLS, ECE, and Summer Camp, are accredited through the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission (NLSA). TLS is also a Nebraska State Board of Education Approved School. As part of the NLSA process, a self-study was completed by over 50 stakeholders including parents, teachers, congregational leaders and members during the 2016/2017 school year. The evidence-based self-study identified areas of strength and opportunities for growth. A school action plan with 56 goals was developed and will be implemented over the next four years. The purpose of the entire accreditation process is to continually improve the educational experience and instruction delivered to our students.

Music is important at Trinity and all students attend music and choir.  Students are given a chance to share their musical talents at our weekly chapel services, annual musical programs and occasional special assemblies that parents are invited to attend.   Students have also performed in the community at events including singing at local churches,  the national anthem at a Lincoln Stars Hockey game and the Governor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Capitol.

We invite you to visit Trinity and find out more about the many programs and events that students and their families enjoy each year.  We look forward to partnering with parents in developing each child’s individual academic potential while caring for their social, emotional and spiritual needs.
